My last writing was about WAITING, which is other dependent. Pausing (a temporary stop in action or speed) is totally self-directed… whether in thinking, speaking or doing.

Interruptions can cause pauses… otherwise we must consciously pause. We pause to breathe, think, allow space, impose a cadence.

How often do you pause? Take a rest, time in between… when beginning something… after a phone call… before an email or text… after a project…before executing… anytime you wish, really?

Most of us are so busy doing, being busy, being productive, we do not take the time to pause. We believe we are “better” when we accomplish, make things, or have things to show. We often go from one thing to another, without a pause. We don’t take that brief pause to clarify, focus or zero in on what we are doing.

There are benefits to pausing.

Pauses

  • Refresh
  • Clarify
  • Prompt new ideas
  • Create space for creativity
  • Allow hearing the whispers from within
  • Enhances the self
  • Allow focus

There are different ways to pause
